Why We Want to Help Start Other Churches
At Glory of Christ Baptist Church, we have a passion to be a “church-planting church.” In other words, we have a passion to help lots of other churches get started. Here are four reasons why:
First, we have a passion to plant new churches because we have a passion for the glory of God! We long to be part of God’s global purpose to glorify his name in all the earth, and we are convinced that this happens as more and more people believe in him, delight in him, and offer their praises to him! “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14).
Second, we have a passion to plant new churches because we want to be a river of resources rather than a reservoir. We want the vision of this church to be about what we can give rather than what we can get. We do not believe in the prosperity gospel, in fact we soundly reject it. But we do believe that God blesses givers more than hoarders and we want to know the blessings of being givers.
Third, we have a passion to plant new churches because that is the most effective method of reaching people who do not already go to church. And believe it or not, the vast majority of people in America—even in Minnesota—do not go to church. If planting new churches is the best way to reach such people, then by all means let’s plant hundreds of them!
Fourth, we have a passion to plant new churches because our mother has a passion to plant new churches. Here’s what I mean: Glory of Christ is a daughter church of Bethlehem Baptist Church and therefore we are part of Bethlehem’s Treasuring Christ Together (TCT) vision. The TCT vision is to plant churches that plant churches, and so our passion is simply a reflection of our mother church’s passion.
Laboring with you for the global glory of Christ,
Pastor Charlie
