Why We Want to Be Involved in Global Missions
At Glory of Christ Baptist Church we have a passion to be involved in global missionary efforts from our very inception. What follows are three of the more important reasons why.
First, the overarching purpose of God in creation is to display his glory before all creation, and most especially before people from every tribe and language and nation (Rev. 7:9-12). He wants us to prize and praise him forever and ever, obeying his every commandment and displaying our love for him by loving one another. Thus, the primary reason we have a passion to be involved in global missions from the inception of this church is because we want to be on board with the vision of God. We want to be part of his global plan. We want to suffer with Christ that we might also live with Christ for the glory of God (Phil. 3:8-11).
Second, we have a passion to be involved in global missions because doing so will greatly expand our view of God and the gospel. Churches that focus mostly on themselves tend to have a culturally-based, small, parochial view of God, whereas churches that involve themselves in God’s world-wide mission tend to have a biblically-based, expanding, awesome view of God. We want, by grace, to have an ever-expanding view of the glory of God.
Third, the measure of the effectiveness of a church is not what it has or what it gets but rather what it gives. God loves and blesses rivers over reservoirs, and my prayer is that this church will grow in its passion for giving so that one day we will give a full third of all our resources to ministries outside our walls. Oh Lord, may it be so!
Finally, we have a passion to be involved in global missions because the need is still so great. Did you know that 2.62 billion people live in cultures that have not yet been reached with the Gospel? That is nearly 40% of humanity, and as people who love the glory and mercy of God, we cannot sit idly by while others go to hell.
Laboring with you for the global glory of Christ,
Pastor Charlie
