Preparing your Soul to Meet with God: Part 3

Over the last two weeks I have said that the goal of Sunday morning worship is to encounter God in worship, prayer, the Word, fellowship, and service. It is to commune with our Father who is in heaven, and who, by amazing grace, has saved our souls and reconciled us to himself and promised us life and peace and joy in Christ. And I have said that to best prepare our souls for this communion it is good to give ourselves to prayer, worship, and meditation on the Word on Saturday afternoon or evening.

This morning I want to add one more thought about preparing our hearts for worship: reaping the harvest of authentic worship on Sunday morning is born of sowing the seeds of worship every day of our lives. Connecting with God on Sunday morning is less about preparing ourselves for a moment and more about walking with God, in Christ, every day of our lives.

Consider the implications for daily life of verses like these: Prayer—“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving” (Col. 4:2). Worship—“And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart...” (Eph. 5:18-19) The Word—“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!...Therefore I love your commandments above gold, above fine gold” (Ps. 119:103, 127).

When we give ourselves to God in prayer and worship and the Word in this manner, not only will we be well prepared for Sunday morning worship, we will be well prepared for worship at any time. It does not take much to move the heart of a person who’s heart is being moved by God on a daily basis.

So, as you seek to make the most of your Sunday morning worship experience, please join me in giving thought to your daily walk with God.

Longing with you to commune with our Father,
Pastor Charlie

Philippians 2:5-7 (ESV)
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,?who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
