More About Less
One of our central passions at Glory of Christ is to see the Word of God transform lives through preaching, teaching, and discipleship. We believe in the power of God’s Word over the wisdom of man, “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account” (Heb. 4:12-13).
Over the last year, the Lord has graciously allowed us to see some measure of life transformation at Glory of Christ, but as we have prayed about it we feel that more can be done to make this passion a reality. Therefore, we will be making some significant changes this fall, all of which are designed to help us say “more about less.” Let me explain.
As it is now, we offer biblical teaching through (1) the Sunday morning sermon, (2) five Sunday School classes, (3) Wednesday Night Connection, (4) the monthly men’s and women’s meetings, and (5) small groups. The content of each of these avenues is completely different, and what is more we encourage our families to memorize Bible verses each week and read through the Bible each year.
What this means for a family at Glory of Christ is that they come home with two to six different lessons every Sunday! And if they go to Wednesday night and attend the men’s and women’s meetings, they come home with up to nine lessons per week! It is impossible to follow through with that many lessons—and without adequate follow through life transformation will likely not happen. This is why we are making several changes.
In the coming weeks I will summarize these changes for you in For the Glory of Christ. Please know that our aim in these things is to heighten the impact of the Word of God upon our families, and please feel free to offer any suggestions or feedback you might have.
In hope and faith,
Pastor Charlie
