How We’re Thinking About the Launch of this Church

Several years ago a dream was born to plant a God-centered church in the Rogers/Elk River area. By the grace of God, and for the glory of God, that dream is about to become a reality. Lord willing, we will officially launch Glory of Christ Baptist Church next Sunday, October 7. Since we’ve already been meeting for some time, some of you may be wondering what precisely will constitute our launch. Three things:

First, this is the first time that we have made a concerted effort to reach out to the public and let them know that this church is here. Second, by engaging the public now we are making a long-term commitment to being a light in this community, by the grace of God and for the glory of God. Third, starting October 7 we will offer a fuller compliment of services, including Sunday School and a Wednesday night service.

When a business first opens up they schedule a Grand Opening for a particular day but they usually leave the sign up for many months. Likewise, October 7 will be a start for us, but it’s not the end-all-be-all of our season of Grand Opening. That will last, we think, for about ten months. We have divided the SMORE area into ten sectors and we plan on reaching out to one at a time over the next ten months, getting to know the place and the people, and serving them in any way we can.

Further, when a business first opens it sometimes has a great influx of customers, but more usually it takes a while for people to begin shopping there. Likewise, on October 7 we may have an influx of people and we may not: that’s not what’s important to us. What is important to us is that we faithfully and prayerfully and joyfully go into the SMORE area with the good news of the mercy of God in Jesus Christ. The Lord will, in his time and way, draw those families to Glory of Christ that belong here. So please continue sowing seeds with us this week, knowing that we’re in this for the long haul and that the Lord will have his way with us, in his time.

Rejoicing in the grace and sovereignty of God,
Pastor Charlie

Lamp & Light Verse

Philippians 2:5-7 (ESV)
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,?who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
